Each year, Meserete Kristos College in Ethiopia must turn away students for lack of funding. Mennonite Church Canada is partnering with the college and its founding church to provide scholarships for these eager students of God’s word. Scholarships of $2,000 USD per student per year are deeply treasured in a country where the average wage for a farmer is $1 - $2/day, and where 1 in 7,000 graduate with a college education. Your contribution to, or gift of, a scholarship will help meet the demand for trained pastors in urban and rural areas of Ethiopia. Gifts may also be used to develop infrastructure on the college campus.
Meserete Kristos College is a school of the Meserete Kristos Church, the fastest growing member church of Mennonite World Conference. The Ethiopian church went underground in 1982, during the brutal Derg military regime. It had 5,000 members at that time. In the early 1990s it resurfaced with 50,000 members. In 1994 it established the Meserete Kristos College and has graduated 1000 students since then. In 2014, MK Church baptized 19,000 members.
